You will need a sample or project, a button, a strand of yarn and a tapestry needle that is small enough to go through your button. Pass the strand of yarn through the eye of the needle and place the button in the desired location. Pass the strand of yarn through the first button hole, passing by the underside of the knit. Then pass the yarn through the hole diagonally to form a visible X or through the opposite hole depending on whether you have 2 or 4 holes in the button. Be careful never to bring out the strand of yarn through the same stitch, this will allow the button to be tighter. If the button holes are wide, you can pass several times, forming an X, to solidify your button. When you’re done, tie a double knot with the beginning and end strands. Cut the threads or make a nice finish by weaving in ends.
