Notes
La Rochelle and Bayonne are both on the west coast of France. La Rochelle is a major port on the Atlantic ocean and a major tourist destination. Bayonne is in the Basque region, near the border with Spain. The Basque region has always tried to separate politically from France (and Spain), but has not succeeded. The Basque language is considered an isolate, i.e. no other living language is related to it.
